Pre-K Resources and Inspiration

I’ve come to realize how much fun Pre-K is. We go out in the woods and learn organically, build STEAM skills with LEGOs, memorize scripture with songs and dance, and learn to read with Play N Talk, LEGO Phonics, and just reading tons of books.

Listen to Narnia audiobooks or Adventures in Odyssey (more free episodes here) these are so excellent. I grew up listening to both and I believe my vocabulary and emotional/social intelligence was fed daily by Odyssey especially.

MAIN READING LIST
Kingstone Bible Trilogy – most comprehensive and beautiful illustrated graphic novel-style Bible
I AM: 40 Reasons to Trust God
Indescribable and How Great is our God by Louie Giglio
Who Sang the First Song?
Octonauts

PRESCHOOL/KINDERGARTEN-SPECIFIC LIST:
LEGO Animals Phonics
LEGO Star Wars Phonics
We love the Highlights Big Fun Preschool Workbook! It’s the best workbook I’ve found for basic building blocks learning to trace letters and numbers and write them independently, then identify them, and engage in fun activities to cement the learning that much more. We use pencil on the letter activities so we can work over it again and again. I work on drawing and help my 4yo work through it at the same time and it feels so great to be doing 2 of the things I love most simultaneously! I am learning to be flexible and proactive on multiple levels.

One way I’ve felt empowered to structure learning is by using videos. I do have a limit on screen time to one hour/day. My 4yo gets a fun video while I put his baby brother to bed. Then he gets something educational. Here are the best

See It, Say It, Sign It: learn the alphabet with sign language and song!

We love Leapfrog learning videos! The Letter Factory was a great boost in my 3 year old’s understanding and memorization of the alphabet! He still sings it (now four) Here’s the youtube compilation of the songs from the video

And this is the adventure in its entirety, a great narrative that keeps kids engaged and helps them connect to letters in a fun, personal way. Leapfrog Letter Factory (amazon). They also have a fantastic deal on 10 of their educational DVDs, a worthwhile investment for Preschool through Kindergarten years.
